Berhampur Bride Protest; The Voice of a brave lady

Bhubaneswar: Women have fallen prey to every kind of tragic incident, but a few cases come up of women, who are willing to fight and never give up such as Dimple from berhampur who stood up for herself when abandoned by her husband.

She did not sit helplessly and her voice reached lakhs of people; “Bride stages protest to get marital rights from her in-laws” became the top Headline of the state.

On 7th september,2020 ; Bride, dimple dash and groom, Sumeet Sahu got legally married at Berhampur registrar’s office. Dimple claims to be harassed by in-laws since her marriage.

However, Leaving everything behind, both  families had decided to solemnize the marriage through customary Hindu rituals in the presence of limited guests.

On November 22, when the ritualistic wedding was supposed to happen, the groom and his family did not show up at the wedding  venue.They did not turn up for hours and even failed to respond to repeated calls and messages, alleges bride Dimple dash.

They did not wait at the mandap after many attempts of trying to reach her in-laws, Dimple and her mother then decided to go to the home of the in-laws and stage a dharna.

On being informed of the dharna, the police reached the spot. Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Pinak Mishra said that a case related to the same couple had been registered at the Mahila police station in the past as well.

On 27 November 2021, The Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court in Berhampur on Saturday ordered Dimple, who staged dharna in front of her in-laws’ house, to stay in a Sakhi centre, a centre for women, till the next hearing date, which was on November 29 but dimple refuse to stay there and decided to protest until she gets justice from her in laws.

She entered the 11th day of her protest when the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) in Berhampur ordered Dimple and her husband to stay together in a rented house in Aska for a week.
