Gas leak at chemical factory, 10 dead. 300 hospitalised

Visakhapatnam: At least 10 persons including 2 senior citizens and on 8 year old girl child died and over 5000 people fell seek after an alleged gas leak in a chemical company in Vizag today. The gas leak occurred at the LG Polymers Plant between 2.30 a.m. and 3 a.m. and reportedly spread over a radius of about three km, affecting at least five villages, including R.R. Venkatapuram, Padmapuram, B.C. Colony and Kamparapalem.

Local officials said more than 300 people have been taken to hospital and that those affected by the gas have described suffering burning eyes and breathing difficulties. The exact cause of the incidents yet to be identified.

Prime minister Narendra Modi spoke to Union Home minister to take stock of the situation. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday demanded a probe into the gas leak incident. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed shock over the gas leak incident.
